When I spend time in the woods, I realize how artificial our lives have become. It usually takes at least 3-4 days for my pace to slow down to "wild" pace. Wild pace is much slower, much more deliberate, much more attuned with all of the senses.
A flock of wigeons pass overhead whistling, as they glide into a hidden corner of the beaver pond. Mushrooms have over-ripened, bending to the weight of wet leaves. The first signs of winter are showing as vine maple, which has turned vivid red and yellow now has browned, leaves ready to drop with the first windstorm. A noise in the woods announce an animal moving through the brush.
While we concentrate on commute times, revenue projections, mortgage rates, and many other artificial influences of our lives, fish concentrate on the equalibrium of effort expended versus intake consumed. Fish that dart back and forth expending enormous amounts of energy, soon wither as there is never enough food to balance the energy required to cover their effort. Nature is far more understanding of the balance of life.
Time to get back to the simple things in life.
